* chief1983 bangs his gavel I call this meeting of the SWC to order :) yayz I had a few things I wanted to talk about tonight But one is more pressing than the rest And that's whether or not there is a true need for the SWC, alongside Imperial Alliance from EH. I would love to see more than one Star Wars project But the fact is, to do so it would need to offer something the other doesn't and I haven't been able to come up with much on my own sorry, I'm ducking between rooms so I've been scouring the forums for old media and such gotcha trying to see if the project was ever headed in a direction IA wasn't the only thing I've seen consistently is a dedication to higher quality ingame content namely, models and textures good idea but that's something that I was under the impression that IA was planning on fixing in the future as they appear to be focusing more on engine changes first most of what has been done for the SWC so far is ship creation at least from what I can see does anyone know if there were ever any goals for the SWC that would be different from what IA is already doing? * chief1983 looks at hippo hi? hey I know you used to be the project lead correct? for a little while at least when KARMA went to the army TopAce and I took leadership together, yes right At that time, IA had already shown significant progress as a star wars mod as well right? what were your thoughts on keeping the SWC going too? Because whatever we can come up with to warrant two mods would be something that should be prominently displayed to the community I think. we never really know what IA's goals were actually, that was more a KARMA thing Ok Well I can say right now, that I believe the SWC should be around, if for nothing else other than it came first, to my knowledge. what we set out to do was origionally make some of the basic ships (trillogy mainly) and make a campaign to go along with custom interfact Greywolf made and a ton of stuff GE did so there is more than just ships done we cut this back to making a modpack that others could use, and then we figured we'd work on just standalone missions to go along with, but we never got close I couldn't find any screenshots of an interface sadly I have a hard time understanding what people mean when they say there's only a few ships I suppose there's only a few ships that have been made to the standards that we'd like to see in a final release but some of the stuff MetalDestroyer did last year was amazing. I watched the videos he posted under 'A Celebration of FreeSpace' There's some very neat looking gameplay already. And with all the screenshots I've seen in various stages of completion, I find it hard to believe that just releasing what little is done so far to the public as a pack would not generate a great deal of interest. goob, could you fix the internal so i could fint one of the interface pics? what we have is far from complete though ok for instance, the corellian corvette karma made from scratch looked amazing, but was annoying as hell in missions because it couldnt do anything ah needs turrets? turrets, a back half, textures, engines, subsystems, the works gotcha the fighters looked great and were ok in game, but karma needed to optomize them more (they were rediculously high poly) but he didnt get around to it what was their count? about 1500 once optimized and unoptimized? havent a clue most of the pictures are linked to the old gamespy ftp, so i cant fit any interface ones Hippo, you ought to be able to access the internal already... what's the error? and furthermore, all the old gamespy logins should still work yeah i found the internal, but the images arent on the project's space, and are apparently gone (i just looked through the directory) and what gamespy login? :p <-- Nu11u5 (~Nu11u5@64-251-149-26-cablemodem-roll.fidnet.com) has left #scp-swc well, there's been a few recent offerings for assistance on the forums so I think I could pull together a small group to get some of this stuff going again the staff will most likely have no problem with others taking on the project the staff? you mean the hlp? the existing/remaining scp staff ok keep in mind though that we got a /lot/ of people who would join up and never do a thing... on the magnitude that we eventually stopped taking people who applied and instead went recruiting Well then, if we do decide that there's a point to continue development of it, I think the progress pack would be great. I know not that i doubt your ability to do stuff, but dont find yourself in the same place we did :p but the ones that have offered have been asking several times, instead of just once. I thought maybe there was hope for a couple of them I Know But I think that even releasing a pack that allows people to play out some of the stuff like MD had created in his videos would be a huge step and if he was able to get that kind of gameplay already, there's got to be something at least almost worth releasing right now on top of that the website has been neglected for some time now it still links to expired forums and such needs to be updated that's hurting community interest the most I'd imagine and all the media that's been released, screenshots and movies it needs to be accessible from one place I spent a day scouring around for all the stuff I could find I have 3 movies and 100 screenshots to show for it i had a great big update for it (i actually joined as webmaster) but we didnt have a gamespy ftp password for about 2 years and since then i've lsot the content is gamespy ftp really that great I really would like to get off of them anyway most of the stuff they host seems to get lost or moved or are they what hosts most of the websites I don't have anything against the current layout, but the links need updating badly is all the gamespy ftp was the former ftp ok just so much of the content on ours is outdated, just like the website ok does anyone know if metaldestroyer was around to help with anything anymore? he is around... I'm not sure how much it wouldn't hurt to ask him I know he has quite a bit of content I dont' know how much of that was uploaded has anything else been lost? models, interface art, shield anis, etc Well, I'd like to sum up. We need a definitie purpose as a mod, to exist. Clearly defined goals. Once those are more in place, we should be able to recruit easier, as people like to know that they have a purpose. As soon as possible, content needs to be organized and whatever is ready, or just about ready for a release needs to be included maybe it should even be internal only just given to people who ask because they want to help just shy of an open link, not really turning anyone down, but keeping it from ending up for sale on Ebay as "Star Wars Game" like what happened with Babylon 5 gonna be hard to deal with the many people who ask we'll just give them the link or something tell 'em not to post it anywhere I just don't want it being googleable or found by people who don't know how to ask for it still itll be leaked and then ebay will be the only place google will see it hmm i think its better to go for as maximum exposure as you can. get the word out and stuff possibly. guess it'd be better to control distribution ourselves then ok well, that, updating the website proper, and getting the teaser material in one spot would be a huge step I think If we could find somewhere to host all current and future screenshots, and movies, and organize it via the website it'd be excellent One more thing, anyone know where the title "Fate of Galaxy" came from? I'm reluctant to want to keep it around, because a) it's not even really proper english, and b) there's no campaign work that I know of to warrant titling it at all yet. I think the more generic Star Wars Conversion works better for now until some sort of storyline for a possible campaign is chosen. but if any one knows why the name was chosen in the first place it would be nice to know dunno but I was never (and still am not) on the team :) I created a thumnail graphic and a mod.ini file for the mod :) I know k cool but I don't know how long you've been around well, chief, I think you have an excellent handle on what it takes to be a project leader I should you are now moderator of the SWC forums with internal access and membership in the Project Heads group :) I'm spending bookoo bucks for UMR to teach me sweet :) hahaha umr?
